It's days like this that I LOVE my job. Recently I donated a package for a silent auction, and the winners, Nancy and Bill, asked for a pet photography session. Little did I know that when I walked through the door a big St. Bernard would be bounding towards me. And as I laughed with surprise and excitement, his owners said, "Oh that's the small one...we want pictures of Tommy, the big one!!" Then Tommy came running around the corner to greet me which made me laugh even harder.
Tommy is a 3-year-old therapy dog with Eastside Therapy Paws, as well as a Grand Champion show dog. He is a very special companion who is able to help adolescents in need. His family wanted to send holiday greetings to the children that he helps, so this was a very fun shoot. You would not believe how entertaining it is to watch someone dress a giant St. Bernard :) First we tried to pose him in some elf ears and reindeer antlers. Then he put on a t-shirt sporting "Colton's Army," and I was touched by the story that came along with it. Colton is their family friend who has been battling cancer for 5 years, and for those five years they have gained an army of support -- including Tommy, their mascot! Later we had his "little" brother, Jack, join us for more Christmas pictures under the mantle. I am truly honored to haved worked with such a generous family that loves to give back to their community and friends. Maybe I'll get to meet the rest of their clan someday (yes, they have more St. Bernards)!
Website Excerpt: Colton's Army is community of prayer warriors and supporters who LOVE a 14-year old HERO who has been called to battle cancer (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia) 5 times in 5 years. He has the smile that can melt you, the heart of an angel and the fight of a true soldier....and he needs all of you to PRAY for God-SIZED miracles.
Welcome to my blog! It is dedicated to my love of photography, sunny weather, family, food, and art!
